Explanation: ASTEROIDS are
predicted domains from PDB chains released since
the last ASTRAL freeze date. They are
updated weekly with newly released entries. Domains are predicted using
BLAST sequence comparison with domains in the current
ASTRAL release,
hidden Markov models (HMMs) created from multiple
sequence alignments of each family and superfamily in the current
ASTRAL release,
and HMMs from the
Pfam-A database.
Unassigned regions of at least 20 consecutive residues are also
predicted to be potential domains.
ASTEROIDS are available in a single file,
as well as optionally available integrated into ASTRAL representative subsets selected according to
two similarity criteria (BLAST E-value and %
identity) at various thresholds.
More details are provided in the
1.65 release notes, the
1.67 release notes, and
the 2004 NAR paper [PDF].
