SCOP User Survey

The ASTRAL developers are currently seeking NIH funding for further maintenance and development of the ASTRAL compendium.

ASTRAL has been critical for SCOP production since its creation. This survey will be very important for our chances of future funding for ASTRAL, and hence important for timely future releases of SCOP. If SCOP is valuable to your research, please help us by filling out the following survey. Any feedback indicating your support would be tremendously helpful!

Survey questions:

Partially completed surveys are welcome, but please give us at least your name and institution.

We would like to use your name, if you allow us:
Keep my name confidential
You may contact me for more information about my usage of SCOP
I would be willing to write a letter of support for ASTRAL if requested

1. Name:

2. Email:

3. Place of work (name of department and institution or company)

4. Do you use any of the following ASTRAL features explicitly, or only the SCOP classification? (please check all that apply):
SCOP domain sequences and representative subsets of these
PDB chain sequences or representative subsets of these
PDB-style files with coordinate information for SCOP domains
SPACI (Summary PDB Astral Check Index) scores, and AEROSPACI scores
PDB ATOM—SEQRES correspondence maps in Rapid Access Format (RAF)
ASTEROIDS weekly updates containing preliminary domain classifications of newly released PDB chains
Other (please specify):

5. What have you used SCOP for? How was it important to your work? What alternatives would you use if future releases of SCOP are delayed?

6. Proposed new features in ASTRAL:
In addition to improving the software to speed the build process and help us fix bugs, we are proposing to add the following features to ASTRAL. Which do you think you might use? (please check all that apply)
Representative subsets of SCOP domains based on structural (rather than sequence) similarity
Improved accuracy in ASTEROIDS preliminary domain predictions
Alternative clustering methods used to create representative subsets
Better search tools for resources in ASTRAL, such as a BLAST search against a sequence you input
Distribution of the code we use to build ASTRAL, as open source
Open source modules you can use in your code to more easily access access ASTRAL data
Other (please specify):

7. What is the feature MOST you would most want to see added to ASTRAL? (including things not specified above)

8. Any other comments?
